Education

In Italy all children from the ages of 6-15 must attend school.  More than 90 percent of students attend a public school.  The government assigns the curriculum and selects the text books. Their schooling system is divided into a five grade elementary school, followed by a three year junior high school.  After graduating from junior high, there is a variety of different schools that students can choose to attend.  Many of these schools offer four or five year programs.  After this type of schooling students can then go to university.  Italy has a total of 47 universities, most run by the Roman Catholic Church.
